As I reflected on my journey, I couldn’t help but think back to my time at HTL and the encouragement I received from my professors to pursue further studies. Despite being a bright student (see HTL Saga), I found myself in a whirlwind after finishing my 6-month stint at the Austrian army. I was on the hunt for a job that would allow me to balance work and my studies at TU Vienna (Technical University of Vienna).
Unexpected Opportunities: The ABB AG Job Interview
Opportunity knocked when I secured a job interview at ABB AG. However, what seemed like the perfect fit turned complicated when they insisted I work full-time. Conflicted, I sought advice from my father, who surprised me by urging me to take the full-time position, despite his previous support for my academic pursuits. It wasn’t until later that I discovered the reason behind his advice.
A Father’s Wisdom: The Path Unveiled
My father was gravely ill, with only a few months left to live. He foresaw the challenges ahead for our family and believed that by taking on a full-time role at ABB AG, I would be better equipped to support them after he was gone. It was a sobering realization, one that reshaped my priorities and led me to put my studies on hold for the time being.
Embracing the Unexpected: Lessons Learned
In hindsight, I understood my father’s sacrifice and the depth of his love for our family. His wisdom guided me through a difficult decision, setting me on a path that would ultimately define my future.
Reflecting further on this journey, I’ve come to appreciate that sometimes life has plans for us that we couldn’t have foreseen. While I had my own aspirations and goals, there was a broader scope of plans unfolding that I couldn’t have possibly predicted. Taking the full-time job at ABB AG and putting my studies on hold was one such instance.
No Regrets, Just Gratitude
Sure, it meant I didn’t pursue my bachelor’s or master’s degree as planned. But you know what? I don’t regret it one bit. Regret isn’t in my nature. In hindsight, ironically, not pursuing further education turned out to be one of the best decisions I never made. It opened doors and opportunities I hadn’t even imagined.
Conclusion: Embracing Flexibility and Gratitude
As I close this chapter of my journey, I’m reminded of the importance of flexibility and gratitude. While it’s essential to have a plan, it’s equally crucial to adapt when things don’t go as expected. Control what you can, and let the rest unfold. Thank you for joining me on this part of my adventure. See you in the next chapter!
